Weekend Events

Hm, what an interesting weekend this has turned out to be.

Well, first of all there were many exciting games of football this past weekend. It was many ABEL small groups put together to form a turkey bowl. At first it wasn't that cold, but it seemed to get colder and colder as the afternoon progressed. It was flag football and I must say there were many rules/limits for the guys--fine by me though =P. All in all, it was fun times on saturday.

Now, before I continue, I must mention my horrendous fifteen page paper about the SATs that I need to write. The rough draft is due on Monday and I started it Friday. Rough draft is nothing you may say. Oh, but it is something. I told myself I'd write five pages a day starting Friday but that did not follow through although I was close. Anyway, so after the Turkey Bowl, I went immediately back to my room to write the paper because there was a possibility that some people were gonna watch Harry Potter that night. I worked rather diligently I must say, but we ended up not going to the movie. But we went out to eat which was fine by me. I could take every break I got. Now, eating might take about an hour or so... however I was gone for about four hours total. Why? Because I was easily sold into playing Monopoly after eating. Craziness? yes. Although it was worth it because Joy, Rob, and I made many deals with each other, and Joy was awesome. She became rich and somehow avoided all the crazy properties that were on the board, while at the same time, Jong, Larse, and Ken became bankrupt. It's a sad sad world out there. Jong claims I used my magic. But I mean, who just has magic like that?

And last but not least, how come my roommate is so sweet? We were supposed to go out to dinner tonite as supposedly a last get together meal before many finals start coming up. But little did I know it turned out to be a surprise birthday dinner. It was not until the waitress came by and tied a balloon around my wrist. The balloons kept coming and by the end of dinner, I had one balloon around my wrist and three tied in my hair. There was another girl there, and i suppose it was her birthday dinner as well. I witnessed the waiter people singing to her and how she had to stand on her chair and dance while they were singing. And I thought to myself... oh... my.. gosh. I considered making a quick dash to the door after that performance, but decided against the idea. Soon enough, those waiter people came around to our table. And yes. I stood up on my chair and danced. Funny sight you ask? Definitely. You want to see it too? Definitely not. However, I did have a good time overall and a big thanks to everyone!

Now I am just sitting here updating my blog when I should be typing many papers. My fifteen pager will remain at twelve for now though because I've concluded it is impossible. Okay, nite!

Out of Hand

It all started when I went to the bathroom to wash up to go to bed. After washing up I went to the bathroom. Right after that, I just walked out. Now, you'd think I would have realized or felt that something was missing... but nope. Did not. I had left my tote and everything in it on the bathroom shelf by the sinks. This was a while ago... we shall label it incident number 1. I did this a second time not too long after that. After this incident number 2, I resolved to myself that I would not let it happen again. Not only did it happen again, though, but it happened within the time span of five hours or something. Let me explain. Two nights ago, I slept really late because for some reason I was not really tired at all and had not been all day. So after praise nite practice I was doing some stuff. I didn't go wash up until around 5 or something, I think. In the morning when I woke up, I found that my tote was sitting on my desk. My initial thought was, did I leave it there and forget to put it away? Then immediately following that thought was, oh no, I must have done it again and Jessie probably brought it back to the room for me (since she had class before me, she had already gone to the bathroom). So I get up and grab the tote sitting on my desk and head yet once again to the bathroom. I wash up, go to the bathroom, and leave. Yup. Forgot the tote. Not only this, though. When I went back to retrieve it, i go by the sinks only to realize that not only had I simply left it there.... I had everything laid out practically across the counter/shelf! Contact case was opened, toothbrush was out.... I don't know what I was thinking! My roommate commented by asking, how does one do that? Sadly, I cannot answer that question for I have no idea how I could be that mindless. I blame it on lack of sleep.

Miscommunication

I think this was one of the reasons why I didn't start a blog before... because I never really have anything to say, so hence I haven't updated in a few weeks. But due to Larse and Weiki's latest blogs, I have no choice but to update.

Well first of all, I must agree with Jessie on point that we are not always together. I enjoy coming back to our room and seeing that it is unlocked. This means my roommate is in. Neither one of us likes coming home to a locked door. However, we both do have very busy schedules. She has class and work and I have many long boring classes. If you look at our neat, color-coded schedules, you would come to this realization. I do enjoy her company emmensly though, and wish that we had more free time to do stuff together. But point being, as creative as Larry's picture is, and it is, its accuracy is somewhat questionable.

Furthermore, there is this discussion about the Weiki/Jong visit to our room. Like usual, there were arguments between Jessie and Jong (and I would like to emphasize that it is pretty clear Jessie's comments are not compliments, but rather quite the opposite). I think this is what happened with the whole, "I like J...." situation. Similar to what Jessie said, she probably had so many insults to hurl at Jong, she just could not wait to say them so it just came out at the wrong time. It was not meant to be mixed in with the former sentence. Is everyone's communication skills perfect? Mishaps are inevitable. And this was one of them. It was just a fluke in the language system. I am trying, by no means, to offend Jong--I would like to make that clear. I am simply trying to clarify things.

I think there were many more funny things that happened in our room, but I will stop here.

Pronunciation

Pronunciation is a strange feature of our American language. On one hand you have your simple words that sound exactly how they look. For instance, dog. Now most people don't mispronounce that word. On the other hand, you have the word, "night". Now, why can't they just make those words into something like "nite"? Most people know that the i is long and the e is silent. that makes sense because if you don't have the silent e at the end, you might mix up the word with nit <-- this is a real word too. if you don't know what it means you can look it up.

Onto names. I think every single person I've met has asked me how to pronounce my name. Specifically, they ask me "Do you say, "ye-von" or "e-von" (long e). Now, I don't mind when people ask me, I just think it's interesting... a minor detail yet people insist on a straight answer. I will tell you that it honestly does not matter to me. It is a very subtle difference. In fact, I've had people pronounce my name, "uh-von" as well. Those are the most common ones I have heard.

Then there are those other unique ways it's been pronounced. One of the most interesting ones was when my RelSt 104 TA called my name when he was handing out papers. Let me first inform you that he is Chinese. When he got to my paper, he said my Chinese name! At first, I was like, how did he know my Chinese name? Then, I realized that he was trying to pronounce my English name, but couldn't so when he tried, it just happened to be how you say my Chinese name. What a funny coincidence. Another interesting way it's been pronounced, so I've heard, was during a meeting. This meeting was at the beginning of the school year when they were figuring out small groups I think. Anyway, I was not there, but supposedly someone kept pronouncing my name like as if it rhymed with bologna (another very strange word in our language). Yeah, I'm not even exactly sure how I would phonetically spell it the way he said it but i suppose it would sound something like "you owe knee."

Now, for some strange reason, one of my very interesting friends started adding an "r" to my name so it would be Yvonner. But then I guess that was too long so people started to shorten it and call me Vonner or Vonners. But this name was short-lived although I do still hear it every now and then. If that is easier for you to pronounce, feel free.

That is all for now. =) Have a good weekend.

So today was a really mindless day for me. I woke up, thought i was all ready to go to class and even had some breakfast. i went to the education building all ready for my lecture. I walk in and i notice these guys sitting in the back and i thought, hm, i've never seen them before. then i was too lazy to climb over people to find a seat so i decided to sit all the way up in the front. i was already late a little bit and i begin to look around and notice that i don't know anyone in the room. i look at the professor and realize, ok that is not my professor... and THEN i come to the conclusion that ok...today is not my lecture day...today was in fact my discussion day... other mindless things happened as well but i will not go into further detail.

yesterday was exciting too where i was able to play many fun games of badminton at impe...i think there was much improvement even within the hour! i was much impressed. it was funny too because all three of them were left-handed... don't find that very often. and i wasn't bored mind you, i just glanced at the other court a few times and was able to imply about their playing abilities... you know just how if you were playing basketball you probably don't need to watch a whole game to make an assumption about how well they play. if anyone wants to sign up still for the badminton tournament the weekend after this coming weekend, you still can!

and can i just say that i was quite annoyed today when i wanted to do laundry. I went downstairs thinking it probably wasn't very busy... and it wasn't. the only thing was everyone left their clothes in the washer after it was done washing! just sitting there... waiting to be put into the dryer.

the bugs are BACK. they were gone for a little while when the weather cooled down. however, they have returned to our room, climbing on the walls and onto our beds and desks and.... just everywhere! did anyone else have this problem at allen? they are quite annoying.... we have even tried to tape our windows shut, but that caused a little bit of the suffocation. they come from no where and yet there are millions of them! they are quite uninvited and need to go away.

ahh so the extra y that goes after my first name and before my last.... perhaps i should let that remain a mystery...

Wow, okay so i guess i've decided to conform to the blogging scene. this will be interesting for i think of myself as a person who really doesn't have that much to say. however, i have been encouraged by a few people to start one so we will see what happens. and i must say, i have never really started reading blogs until very very recently... like a few days ago or something. i've come to realize that many people say many interesting things.

anyhow, so let me just clarify some things in response to weiki's blog. first of all, i will admit that sometimes jessie and i do go astray from our exact schedule, but let me tell you, when we do decide to study... we do a rather good job...we are... efficient!... yeah that's the word i'm looking for. and i also must say that my roommate is a very smart girl, who even without all that efficiency time planned out, she will still do good in her classes. secondly, i don't know where everyone comes off to think i have a 4.0 because i really don't have one. not that a 4.0 is bad or something cuz it's not ... but ya know, just trying to get the facts straight =)

well i suppose people post about their day as well sometimes? yeah ok i'll try doing some of that now. besides going to classes for much of the day today, my roommate and i were able to restock on groceries after going to meijer where jong was kind enough to take us. then we went to weiki's place where he cooked up a delicious dinner (6-course or something). i'm impressed! well done well done. and i end by saying that i am sitting here finishing off my very first blog. =)
